Channel steel is a long steel strip with a grooved cross section. It is a carbon structural steel for construction and machinery.

It is a steel section with a complex cross section and a grooved cross section. Channel steel is mainly used in building structures, wall engineering, mechanical equipment and vehicle manufacturing.
Basic situation: It is required to have good welding, riveting performance and comprehensive mechanical properties during use. The raw steel for producing channel steel is also carbon steel or low alloy steel billet with a carbon content not exceeding 0.25%. The finished channel steel is delivered after hot processing, normalizing or hot rolling. Its specifications are expressed in millimeters of waist height () * leg length (6) * waist thickness (), such as 10*48*5.3, which means a channel steel with a waist height of 100 mm, a leg length of 48 mm, and a waist thickness of 5.3 mm, or 10# channel steel. If there are several different leg lengths and waist thicknesses for channel steels with the same waist height, ab should be added to the right of the model to distinguish them, such as 25#a 25#b 25#c, etc.

Classification
Channel steel is divided into ordinary channel steel and light channel steel. The specifications of hot-rolled ordinary channel steel are 5-40#. The specifications of hot-rolled variable channel steel supplied by agreement between the supply and demand parties are 6.5-30#. Channel steel is mainly used for building structures, vehicle manufacturing, other industrial structures and fixed cabinets, etc. Channel steel is often used in conjunction with I-beams.
Channel steel can be divided into 4 types according to its shape: cold-bent equilateral channel steel, cold-bent unequal-sided channel steel, cold-bent inner-curled channel steel, and cold-bent outer-curled channel steel. According to the theory of steel structure, the channel steel wing plate should be stressed, that is, the channel steel should stand up, not lie down.

Numbering
① Use international chemical element symbols and national symbols to indicate chemical composition, and use Arabic letters to indicate component content: such as: China, Russia 12CrHi3A
② Use fixed-digit numbers to indicate steel series or numbers:; such as: United States, Japan, 300 series, 400 series, 200 series ③ Use Latin letters and sequence to form serial numbers, which only indicate the purpose.
Specification setting The specifications of channel steel are mainly expressed by height (h), leg width (b), waist thickness (à), etc. The specifications of domestic channel steel range from 5-40, that is, the corresponding height is 5-40cm. At the same height, light channel steel has narrower legs, thinner waist and lighter weight than ordinary channel steel. 18-40 is large channel steel, and 5-16 is medium channel steel. Imported channel steel indicates the actual specification size and relevant standards. The import and export orders of channel steel are generally based on the specifications required in use after determining the corresponding carbon steel (or low alloy steel) steel grade. In addition to the specification number, channel steel has no specific composition and performance series. The delivery length of channel steel is divided into two types: fixed length and letter length, and the tolerance value is specified in the corresponding standard. The length selection range of domestic channel steel is divided into three types according to the specification number: 5-12m, 5-19n, and 6-19m. The length selection range of imported channel steel is generally 6-15m
The main uses of channel steel include:
Frame structures of high-rise buildings, such as office buildings, shopping malls, hotels, etc., used to bear large loads and earthquake resistance.
Steel structure engineering of industrial plants, such as petrochemical, electric power, metallurgy and other industries, forming column-beam frames or truss structures.
Steel structures of bridge engineering, such as highway, railway, cross-sea bridges, forming main beams, side beams, bridge towers and other components.
Manufacturing and installation engineering of mechanical equipment, such as cranes, excavators, forklifts and other equipment, manufacturing various parts or connectors.
Stable support members of the hull, as cables for cabins and other uses. These uses show the importance of channel steel in the construction and industrial fields.
