In January 2026, crude steel production in 69 countries/regions included in the World Steel Association's statistics totaled 147.3 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 6.5%.

Regional Crude Steel Production

In January 2026, Africa's crude steel production was 2 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 5.8%; Asia and Oceania's crude steel production was 107.6 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 8.6%; the EU (27 countries)'s crude steel production was 10.3 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 2.3%; other European countries' crude steel production was 3.7 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 4.4%; the Middle East's crude steel production was 4.8 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 12.6%; North America's crude steel production was 9.2 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 0.6%; Russia and other CIS countries + Ukraine's crude steel production was 6.5 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 8.6%; and South America's crude steel production was 3.4 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 1.2%.

The data submitted by these 69 countries/regions represents approximately 98% of global crude steel production in 2024.

Crude steel production ranking Top Ten Countries

In January 2026, China's estimated crude steel output was 75.27 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 13.9%; India's crude steel output was 15.1 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 10.5%; the United States' crude steel output was 7.1 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 3.3%; Japan's crude steel output was 6.8 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 0.5%; South Korea's crude steel output was 5.6 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 5.0%; Russia's estimated crude steel output was 5.5 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 7.4%; Turkey's crude steel output was 3.4 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 5.8%; Germany's crude steel output was 3.1 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 15.0%; Brazil's crude steel output was 2.7 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 1.4%; and Iran's crude steel output was 2.6 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 15.1%.
