Cold-drawn steel wire used to make the steel bars in the tension zone of prestressed concrete components. Generally, concrete has high strength against compression, but it shows brittleness and is prone to cracking when subjected to tensile force. Prestressed concrete is a process in which the steel bars arranged in the tension zone of the component are subjected to a tensile force in advance to generate pre-tension stress.

The pre-tension stress on the steel bar reacts to the pre-compression stress in the tension zone, which can offset or reduce the tensile stress of the concrete caused by the external load, thereby greatly improving the ability of the tension zone to resist tensile force, thereby reducing the size of the component, saving materials and reducing the deadweight of the component.

Due to these advantages, prestressed concrete components have been successfully used in many projects such as large bridges, roof trusses, crane beams, industrial and civil prefabricated floor slabs, rail sleepers, electric poles and piles, large-diameter prefabricated pipelines, and nuclear power plants. The production of prestressed steel wire has developed rapidly with the widespread application of prestressed concrete components.
